While a patient will still have a primary care medical team, the rehabilitation team provides additional treatments and therapies. The rehabilitation team is comprised of highly skilled experts who are committed to meeting the unique needs of each patient. Following an evaluation, the best suited treatment plan for each patient is devised.
Several of the more prevalent indications and symptoms include the following:
Skeletal muscle inactivity rapidly results in the loss of lean muscle mass (sarcopenia);
Skeletal muscle strength declines (muscle weakness in the arms and legs);
Tendon and ligaments require movement to remain healthy; if they are immobile for an extended period of time, their function is impaired.
Inadequate endurance
Excessive fatigue and irritability
Impaired breathing capacity if the respiratory muscles become weak
Difficulty walking or doing ADL
Eventually, loss of independence results in a decline in quality of life
Frequent falls, balance and coordination issues
The moderate exercise format prescribed by the physiotherapist will improve muscle strength, mobility, ADL performance, walking and endurance, decrease falls, and improve balance and coordination.
